While the Wolf Run slot was one of the first IGT slots to come online, their online development team haven't exactly been sitting back and admiring their work! In fact, their pledge was to try and get as many of their new slot games online as possible. One of their most popular oldies, Coyote Moon slot, is now available to play online for free and real money. It arrived a bit late to the party but I guess IGT decided that having the Wolf Run slot and the Lil’ Lady slot, another clone of Wolf Run, meant that Coyote Moon could wait a bit. Which isn't too surprising as it is simply Wolf Run in a different skin and not as popular when you talk globally rather than locally - although in some areas (like the UK), Coyote Moon slots are actually more common in my experience. In actual fact, the game is more popular down under in the Aussie pokie parlours than it is elsewhere. You do see it quite extensively in Vegas and in the UK while in Macau, Wolf Run's big sister, Wild Wolf, dominated the Cotai strip last time I visited.
This video slot is set at night in a desert bathed in light from the full moon – the game’s Wild is the wild coyote itself howling at the big ball of light. It’s called the Coyote Moon logo and it can replace all symbols except the Scatter (or the Bonus icon), which is the red cave drawing of a man playing an instrument. Other icons include some desert-found creatures like a deer, a hummingbird, a cow’s skull, and a lizard. Playing card symbols, Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine are also there. The soundtrack on Coyote Moon is definitely the best of the three canine slots, with some good old howling when you win and just enough chirping crickets throughout.
The online version of the Coyote Moon slot is actually a little different from the land-based versions I have seen. The game-play is essentially the same (and the RTP is the same as Wolf Run at 94.98% in most places) but the graphics and sounds have received a bit of an overhaul to make them fresher and IGT have also added the "Big Win" indicators. It’s a 5x4 reel slot with 40 adjustable pay-lines. The minimum bet per line is 1 credit and the maximum bet per line is 50 credits. Much like Wolf Run it is suitable for high rollers and beginners alike. However, as it’s categorised as a low to medium variance free and real money slot, you should expect more modest wins rather than big cash-outs.
In the Stacked Wilds feature each reel in the base game is loaded with groups of four or more consecutive Wild symbols. The Rising Moon Bonus is triggered by getting the Bonus symbol in any position on reels 2, 3 and 4. Once activated you are given five free spins with even greater Stacked Wilds action, much more than in the base game. You can also retrigger the Bonus again and again by getting three of the same symbols anywhere on the centre three reels. As you can see it can be retriggered multiple times, up to a maximum of 255 free spins per Bonus!
IGT have been steadily bringing games like Coyote Moon online for some time. They all have the added feature of the graphics button for optimal animation performance. In ‘Best’ mode, the graphics look best but the performance may suffer, so I say ‘High’ mode is your best bet.
Coyote Moon is not the most original slot out there, although it does have some upgraded features compared to some of the other games in the IGT family such as better graphics, animations and richer reels. It’s this upgrade which probably makes it the best of the wolf pack to play.
